CSL heavyweights Guangzhou Evergrande lost to Shandong Luneng 1-0 on Saturday, suffering their first loss of the new season. Guo Tianyu scored the only goal for Luneng. In the 60th minute, Luneng pushed a siege around Evergrande's penalty area. Liu Yang passed the ball inside with a header. Evergrande's Gao Zhunyi tried to clear but some how missed the ball which went to Guo Tianyu. Guo did not trap the ball and broke the opponents' goal with a strong volley. This was his first goal in a CSL game.
In the other game on Sunday night, Jiangsu Suning beat Guangzhou R&F 2-0, remaining undefeated after four games. Suning's Alex Teixeira scored two goals in the 22nd and 35th minute, helping his team establish an early 2-0 lead in the first half. This was also the fourth straight game four R&F to lose goal in the first half. R&F got a penalty kick in the 58th minute, but Eran Zahavi's shot was denied by Suning's goalkeeper Gu Chao. Thanks to this victory, Suning surpassed Evergrande to lift to No. 1 in Group A.
