Hong Kong activist Agnes Chow Ting was arrested on Monday for a suspected violation of the national security law for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), police confirmed.

Chow, 23, is the former leader of Demosisto, a group advocating for "Hong Kong democracy." Chow announced her withdrawal from Demosisto on June 30, the day when the national security law came into effect.

In a briefing, police said they arrested a total of 10 people, aged between 23 and 72, in a national security operation. Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, owner of Apple Daily newspaper, was among the arrests.
