Heavy rainstorms cause six deaths in SW China

Heavy rainstorms have hit parts of southwest China's Sichuan Province from Monday night to Tuesday morning, causing floods and landslides. The city of Ya'an is one of the worst-hit areas. Six people have died there, and another five remain missing. Two people were buried after their houses collapsed; one has been rescued so far. Floods have also damaged roads, farmlands, and power and telecommunication lines. More than 170 rescuers have participated in the rescue operation. About 400 people have been evacuated.
