Russia announces registration of world's first COVID-19 vaccine

Russia's health ministry has given regulatory approval for the world's first COVID-19 vaccine, and one of the President Vladimir Putin's daughters has been vaccinated, Putin said on Tuesday.

The vaccine against the novel coronavirus was developed jointly by the Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defence Ministry.

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the vaccine would be administered to healthcare workers beginning in September. It will be available to the general public starting in January.
