Typhoon Mekkhala makes landfall in E China's Fujian Province

Mekkhala, the sixth typhoon of this year, landed in Zhangpu County, east China's Fujian Province on Tuesday morning, according to the local meteorological authorities. /CFP
With a wind force of up to 33 meters per second near its eye, Mekkhala reached the coastal area of Zhangpu County at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. /CFP
Passersby on streets of Xiamen and Quanzhou were seen struggling their way through the wind and rain. /CFP
Public transportation in areas affected by Mekkhala has been halted. Some train services have been stopped and Gaoqi airport in Xiamen canceled over 60 flights on Tuesday. /CFP
Meteorological authorities forecast that the typhoon will move northwestward and gradually weaken after the landfall. Parts of the province will see downpours on Tuesday. /CFP
