Colombia recorded 12,830 new cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily tally since the first case was detected in early March. The number of total cases now stands at 410,453, with 13,475 deaths.
India recorded 60,963 new cases and 834 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 2,329,638 on Wednesday as the deaths reached 46,091. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there was an urgent need to increase testing of samples to curb the virus in 10 states which account for nearly 80 percent of fresh cases across the country.
Germany confirmed 1,226 new cases with six more deaths on Wednesday, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 218,519 and death toll to 9,207. The health minister said there were smaller and larger outbreaks of coronavirus in almost all parts of the country.
Brazil on Tuesday recorded 52,160 new cases and 1,274 more deaths, raising the total to 3,109,630 confirmed cases nationwide, with the country's total fatalities reaching 103,026. The hardest-hit state is Sao Paulo, the country's most industrialized and populated state, with 25,571 deaths and 639,562 cases of infection.
Argentina reported 7,043 new cases on Tuesday, pushing the total confirmed infections to 260,911, surpassing the total caseload in Italy. The latest government data shows 5,004 people have died from the disease.
Mexico on Tuesday reported 6,686 new cases and 926 additional fatalities, bringing the totals in the country to 492,522 infections and 53,929 deaths. The government has said the real number of infected people is likely significantly higher than the confirmed cases.
