Wide, open spaces teeming with wildlife, and beautiful, vibrant cultures. These were the scenes Shi Yingying encountered when she moved to Kenya in 2010. And from a need to share her perspective, the travel and lifestyle company Bobu Africa was born.

The name Bobu comes from the Baobab tree which made an impression on Yingying when she first arrived in Nairobi from her country China in 2010 to work for the Chinese news agency Xinhua. Even then her love of travel ran deep. Yingying had never set foot on the African continent before 2010. She found that her previous impression was very different from the real Africa she encountered. And she wanted to share these experiences with others in China.

"Biggest challenge so far has been the cultural differences because, as Chinese, we have a totally different cultural background than the Africans," she said. And through dialogue they have found understanding.

Today in our special series China-Africa Idea Lab, we meet Chinese entrepreneur Shi Yingying. She runs a tour company in Kenya, offering Chinese tourists experiential journeys across Africa. Wilkister Nyabwa has the story.
