Lhasa's annual Shoton Festival, also known as the Yogurt Banquet Festival, attracts tens of thousands of people every year. The week-long festival, one of the grandest traditional festivals for Tibetans, has a history over 1,000 years. From displaying giant Thangka paintings to presenting ethnic opera performances, the festival employs both old and new practices to entertain locals as well as attract visitors from home and abroad.
