The decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to allow the sixth Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to continue performing duties is legitimate and reasonable, said Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, HKSAR's secretary for justice, on Friday.
In an interview with the CCTV about the NPC decision, Cheng said the one-year vacancy resulting from the election postponement was a constitutional issue, which should be handled by the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.
Cheng also condemned the U.S. sanctions on HKSAR officials, describing the move as "entirely in violation of international law."
