An infrared camera set up in the Ruyuan Grand Canyon in south China's Guangdong Province captured pictures and videos of a Sumatran serow.

Sumatran serows are typically found in tropical and subtropical regions in Southeast Asia.

The animal is under second-class state protection in China. It mainly lives in coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests or rocky shrub forests at an elevation of 1,000-4,400 meters.

According to the Guangdong Institute of Applied Biological Resources, there are currently 3,000 to 8,000 Sumatran serows in the province.

Guangdong has used infrared cameras to collect images of wild animals since 2008. Up to now, more than 500,000 photos and videos have been collected and more than 110 wild animals have been recorded.
