Tibetan yaks serve as an important part of Tibetan people's lives. Every inch of a yak can be used in some way.

The meat is high in protein and low in fat, which makes it nutritious and healthy. Yak wool can be used to produce warm clothes, which are a necessity during the harsh winter. Yak milk is used to make butter, cheese, and other dairy products. Even its dung can be used as fuel for cooking and heating.

Yaks have served as a means of transport on the plateau since ancient times. Today, they help carry supplies to base camp at Mount Qomolangma, at an altitude of 6,500 meters.
