Shanghai Wild Animal Park is taking various measures to help animals through the summer heat.

Zookeepers prepare four ice blocks, each weighing 70 kilograms, both in the morning and in the afternoon to help red pandas fend off the heatwave. The red pandas rest on the ice blocks and lick them to cool down. Giant pandas enjoy air conditioning, while hippos savor watermelons. For elephants from Southeast Asia, the high temperature of 38 degrees Celsius in Shanghai is not a problem. What troubles them is the low humidity, so spraying devices humidify the air and zookeepers regularly rinse the animals with water.
