Australia touts vaccine deal as outbreak eases

Updated 2020.08.19 21:02 GMT+8

The outbreak in Australia's Victoria state has further eased, with health authorities saying new cases are trending downward. The country has agreed to a deal with British drug maker Astra-Zeneca to secure a potential vaccine for its population of 25 million people. All Australians will be offered doses at no cost but a medical panel will determine the priority list of recipients. AstraZeneca said last month that good data was coming in so far for its vaccine, which has already entered large-scale human trials.
