China has decided to suspend the judicial assistance treaty between its Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the U.S., Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Thursday.

Zhao's announcement came after the U.S. decided to suspend or terminate three bilateral agreements with the HKSAR.

The Hong Kong SAR government on Thursday issued a severe reprimand to the United States administration over its unilateral decision to suspend or terminate three bilateral agreements.

Zhao said he totally agreed with the SAR government's stance and reiterated that Hong Kong issues are purely China's internal affairs, which doesn't allow foreign interference.

"We urge the U.S. side to correct its erroneous decision and stop interfering in China's internal affairs," said Zhao.
