Manchester United and Manchester City will not be required to compete in the opening weekend of the 2020-21 Premier League campaign following their European commitments this past season.
Man City's season came to an end on August 15 with a 3-1 defeat by Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League quarterfinals, while Man United's season concluded following their Europa League semifinal loss to Sevilla a day later.
With teams requiring at least a 30-day break before their first match, City and United will likely play their opening game the following week, the Times newspaper said.
However, Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were knocked out of the Europa League by Sevilla on August 11 — 32 days before the start of the new season — will be required to play on the opening weekend.
Premier League title holders Liverpool started their past two seasons with a home match, beating Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield in 2019-2020 and West Ham Untied 4-0 in 2018-2019.
City ended the 2019-20 season in second place, 15 points ahead of third-placed United.

Promoted teams
Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham are three teams that have been promoted to the Premier League this season.

After two seasons away, West Bromwich Albion clinched promotion to the Premier League with a 2-2 draw against the London-based Queens Park Rangers football club in July as rivals Brentford faltered on a dramatic final day of the Championship season.
Fulham made an instant return to the Premier League on August 4, beating Brentford 2-1 at Wembley in London.
