Steppe eagles released into the wild in southeast China

Updated 2020.08.20 16:40 GMT+8

Wildlife volunteers on Monday released some rescued birds, including two steppe eagles weighing more than 2.5 kilograms, into the wild at Lingyuan Mountain, Jinjiang City, southeast China's Fujian Province.

The steppe eagle is under second-class state protection in China. These eagles were found on the fence of a residential house in Jinjiang City in early July. They were exhausted and couldn't fly.

Staff from the local wild animal rescue station took them in and fed them. After more than 40 days, the eagles were healthy again and ready to be released.

To study steppe eagle's habits, volunteers fitted them with GPS trackers.
