Hong Kong reports 27 new COVID-19 cases

China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Friday reported 27 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, of which 18 were domestic transmissions, marking the 19th consecutive day that the daily caseload was below 100 since the virus resurgence began in mid-July.

Since January, the Asian financial hub has registered 4,631 coronavirus infections, and 75 people have died, the health authorities added.

As case growth tends downward, the HKSAR government has vowed to resolutely bring the severe epidemic situation under control and announced to roll out a mass screening of residents for COVID-19.

The plan will start on September 1, aiming to complete the testing in two weeks with the help of experts from the Chinese mainland.
