Perfect World Investment & Holding Group, one of the largest entertainment companies in China, is now trying to build a business email suite.

"88" is the new brand they invented for the suite, aiming at young and small enterprises with an integrated solution for communication, career management and online collaboration.

Anyone interested in the suite can create a free mailbox at 88.com, the official website.

"To us Chinese people, the number eight means money, luck and good life," Chi Yufeng, chairman of the company, said at a press conference in Beijing on August 8, a date corresponding to the brand.

Business email suite has been around for decades and there are many matured products available in China. What made 88.com different could be integration.

"It will be all synergized," Dr Robert H Xiao, vice-chairman of the company, told CGTN Digital, "we want to make sure that the consumer experience is always consistent."

Xiao added that the 88.com experience will be crafted to suit the need of younger generations with style in mind.

CGTN Digital created an account to try out the 88.com service. The whole thing is built around a mailbox service which for now looks typical. But we do find the integration of a web version of WPS Office, Feishu Meetings from ByteDance and a self-developed team management system.

The speed of the webpage is impressive and the style of different parts of the service is consistent. The old feeling of "different things pieced together" is basically gone.

Xiao also said the service will be globally available.

"If we accumulate enough consumers from one particular country or region, we're going to refine a customized version for them," Xiao promised, admitting the product will focus on Chinese people initially.

"It's always our goal to get into the world," he added.
