Hong Kong reports 26 new COVID-19 cases, one death in past 24 hours 

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) recorded 26 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 4,657, local health authorities announced on Saturday. 

Twenty-four of the new cases were locally transmitted. The region has reported less than 100 new daily cases for 20 consecutive days. 

One more death was reported on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 76.

Fifty nucleic acid testing personnel from various public hospitals in southern Guangdong Province have arrived in Hong Kong to help carry out more extensive nucleic acid testing, Guangdong provincial health authorities said on Friday.

Mass screening for COVID-19 in Hong Kong will begin on September 1 with the aim of completing testing within two weeks, according to HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam.
