Nearly 2,000 people have stepped up to become volunteers in Indonesia's race to produce a vaccine against COVID-19. The Indonesian government has partnered with China's Sinovac Biotech for the vaccine's development and the research will be conducted by a university in Bandung, West Java. Clinical trials on a potential drug have entered the last phase, with mass production set to begin as early as February 2021. Aside from the collaboration with Sinovac, President Widodo is also working on developing a local vaccine called Merah Putih, or Red and White, named after the colors of the Indonesian flag. As the country continues its struggle to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, these vaccines will begin to provide the solution and hope many are looking for.
