Japan may allow in all stranded foreign residents from September: Report

The Japanese government is planning to ease the strict re-entry ban that has been in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus, reported NHK citing the government.

Starting September, the government is planning to allow the re-entry of all residential status holders on the condition that they take PCR virus tests and quarantine themselves for two weeks at designated hotels.

Japan will begin to ease the re-entry ban on students this month.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country increased by 984 to reach 62,046 as of Saturday night, according to the latest figures.

The government is currently denying entry to foreigners from 146 countries and territories.

To meet the demand of virus testing, local officials are preparing to expand the testing capabilities at Narita and two other major airports to 10,000 people per day next month, reported NHK.
