World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Friday that he hopes the COVID-19 pandemic will end in less than two years.
"Hoping we can have additional tools like a vaccine, I think we can finish it in a shorter time than the 1918 flu," he told a press conference in Geneva.

The United States recorded 48,693 new COVID-19 cases and 1,108 related deaths on Friday, according to data released by Johns Hopkins University.
As of Friday, the country had reported a total of 5,622,540 cases, including 175,363 deaths.
Germany reported its highest single-day increase in infections since April 26, according to the national agency for disease control and prevention.
New coronavirus cases topped 2,000 over the 24 hours, bringing the total number to 232,082.
Russia reported 4,921 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, pushing its confirmed national tally to over 950,000, with 121 more deaths, lifting the total death toll to 16,310.
South Korea has announced it will ramp up coronavirus restrictions across the country starting Sunday to try and control a growing outbreak. The move came as it reported 332 cases on Saturday, the highest daily figure since early March.
The government announced it would be expanding Level Two social distancing guidelines, currently only applicable in the greater Seoul area, Busan and parts of North Jeolla Province, across the country from Sunday.
High-risk facilities, including karaoke rooms, clubs, PC cafes and buffets, are restricted from operating. Indoor gatherings of 50 or more people and outdoor events involving 100-plus people are strictly prohibited, Yonhap News Agency reported.
