An air ambulance carrying Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny landed in Berlin, Germany on Saturday after a day-long standoff over his medical evacuation.

Navalny, who is in a coma after drinking what his allies believe was poisoned tea, will receive medical care in Germany.

Doctors at the Omsk clinic in Russia, where Navalny had been hospitalized, earlier told the media that while it was possible to transfer Navalny to Germany for treatment, it was neither needed nor encouraged.

Navalny fainted on a flight from Tomsk to Moscow on Thursday. The aircraft had to make an emergency stop in Omsk and he ended up at a local hospital in an artificially induced coma.

His supporters have alleged that he might have been poisoned.
