Barcelona announced on Sunday that its midfielder Miralem Pjanic had tested positive for coronavirus.
Pjanic recently joined Barca on loan from Juventus at the end of this season for 60 million euros (70.75 million U.S. dollars) in a move which saw Arthur Melo going the other way for 72 million.
As for now, the La Liga club confirmed that the 30-year-old would not join his new club in Spain for the pre-season for at least 15 days.
"Miralem Pjanic tested positive for PCR on Saturday, August 22 after suffering some discomfort. The player is in good health and is isolated at home," the club said in a statement.
"For this reason, the player will not travel to Barcelona until 15 days later to join Barca."
Pjanic won't be able to begin training until September 7, less than a week before the new season starts.
Barca, however, will not start their Liga campaign until the third week of the season due to their participation in the final phase of the Champions League.
Barca finished the 2019-20 season with a heartbreaking loss (8-2) to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal earlier on August 14, and will begin their 2020-21 La Liga campaign from September 12.
