Giant bamboo: The king of bamboos

Updated 2020.08.25 11:14 GMT+8

Bamboos usually grow about 10 meters, but in Xishuangbanna, southwest China's Yunnan Province, one bamboo species can grow up to 30 meters. Its diameter can reach 30 centimetres. Due to its huge size, it gets the name of giant bamboo and is hailed as "the king of bamboos."

Covered by lush vegetation, Manlongle in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna is a well-preserved village of Dai ethnic people. Clumps of giant bamboos are often seen on the roadside. Dai people use them to build bamboo houses, buckets and many other utensils.
