Nature is reclaiming remote villages in Beijing. In Shuiyu Village, as more and more people are moving to urban areas, many houses have been deserted, leaving the space to nature.
With less people farming in the village and with the local government promoting a farmland-to-forest policy, more land around the village has been left untouched, a forest ranger surnamed Yang said.
Yang said that she has been seeing more animals like squirrels, badgers, wild boars and roe deer near the village. The boars have been spotted visiting the cornfields frequently.
