Latest COVID-19 development around the globe

India reported a record daily jump of 77,266 coronavirus infections on Friday, taking its total to nearly 3.39 million. Deaths in the same period went up by 1,057, taking the total toll to 61,529.

South Korea on Friday reported 371 more cases in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of infections to 19,077. The daily caseload was down from 441 the previous day, but it has grown by triple digits for 15 straight days.

The country also decided on Friday to maintain tighter social-distancing guidelines for one more week in Seoul and its surrounding metropolitan area, and it was mulling stricter measures including restrictions on business hours for restaurants and cafes.

Australia's second most populous state of Victoria on Friday said 12 people had died from the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours and there were 113 new cases.

Brazil reported 44,235 new cases of the novel coronavirus and 984 deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours. The nation has now registered 3,761,391 infections since the pandemic began, while the official death toll from COVID-19 has risen to 118,649.

Meanwhile in Germany, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases increased by 1,571 to 239,507, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Friday. The reported death toll rose by three to 9,288.
