Construction of Chengdu Donganhu Stadium is underway. The stadium was designed for the 2021 Summer World University Games in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. Made up of 12,540 shards of colored glass, the dome features the world's largest Sun and Immortal Birds pattern. It first took shape on Tuesday. It was inspired by the ancient Sun and Immortal Birds totem originating from the region. At its peak, an average of more than 250 people were working at the site, installing some 1,000 shards of glass a day, covering over 2,000 square meters. In 2021, Chengdu will be the third city on the Chinese mainland to host the Summer World University Games after Beijing and Shenzhen.
