“Education is the most fundamental way out of poverty,” said Pacha Youge, an official in Atulie'er Village in southwest China's Sichuan Province. Known as the "cliff village," school children there once had to climb vines to reach their homes on top of an 800-meter-high cliff. The terrible conditions motivated Youge to stay there to help even after his two-year term as first secretary was over.
