China issued on Friday a revised list of export bans and restrictions on some technologies. Twenty-three items were added, while the technical parameters of a further 21 were changed. The new regulations cover computing and data-processing technologies, such as text analysis, speech modeling, and voice recognition. The revision also removes four items prohibited from export, including microbial fertilizing and caffeine production technologies. Professor John Gong from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing shares his insights on the consideration behind this move.
