Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will end his European trip on Tuesday (September 1) and 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) will start on Thursday (September 3).

Wang Yi finishes week-long Europe visit

The Chinese foreign minister will finish on Tuesday his first overseas trip since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The last stop in his European tour is Germany. Ahead of his arrival, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday that Germany and the European Union wanted to continue the conversation with China and set an example for multilateralism.  

The Chinese foreign minister has already visited Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and France, covering major European countries from different areas in South, West and North Europe.

Wang has said his Europe trip has four main purposes, namely to continue the fight against COVID-19 with Europe, support Europe's unity and development, promote China-Europe relations and boost world peace and development.

Beijing fair to hold 190 activities

The 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services, a major platform for the services trade in the country will be held in Beijing from September 3 to September 7.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing municipal government, the fair, with 190 both online and offline activities, including summit forums, industry seminars and promotional events, covers such fields as cultural trade, tourism services, financial services, winter sports and robotics.

The event is expected to see 116 forums and business negotiations in different service trade sectors, with 30 international organizations, foreign embassies in China and overseas business associations and organizations showing their intention to stage exhibitions or meetings.

Monday: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visits Germany (to September 1); Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell attend a conference in Slovenia.

Tuesday: Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to deliver annual address to the nation; Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador holds his second state of the union address.

Wednesday: Chief European Union Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier speaks in Dublin at the Institute of International and European Affairs think tank.

Thursday: China commemorates 75th anniversary of the victory day of anti-Japanese aggression; Jamaican House of Representatives election.

Friday: China International Fair for Trade in Services opens (to September 7).

Saturday: China International Fair for Trade in Services continues.

Sunday: The 9th anniversary of a pact to end a 40-year border demarcation dispute between India and Bangladesh.
