About 553,000 people have signed up for the Universal Community Testing Program (UCTP) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) as of 6:00 p.m. Monday, the HKSAR government said in a statement.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam will participate in the testing with the SAR's principal officials at the testing center at Central Government Complex of HKSAR on Tuesday, when the testing starts.

Among the 141 community testing centers, 97 - nearly 70 percent - were fully booked on the first day of the UCTP, the government said.

14 testing centers have been fully booked for the period between September 1 and 7.

The HKSAR government said they will closely monitor the booking situation, the operation of the program and will consider whether to extend the program for up to seven days.
