Due to a lack of infrastructure, Lebugou used to be isolated from the outside world. However, in recent years, the local government has been promoting tourism in the region by building more homestay hotels and restaurants, and repopulating the area with residents from other areas.

This region is close to the borderline with Bhutan and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India. Many locals take the responsibilities of patrolling the border by herding livestock.

The ethnic traditions of Mongpa people are also well-preserved in the border villages.
