Arrests made as hundreds protest lockdown measures in Melbourne
Arrests have been made as hundreds took to the streets to protest the government's lockdown measures in Melbourne, local media reported.
Protesters, most wearing masks, gathered at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance despite warnings from health authorities, according to ABC News.
The current Stage 4 restrictions in place in Melbourne prohibit residents from leaving their homes to protest.
Victoria Police has not provided numbers on the number of arrests made, but said the protests were a "dynamic situation," according to the report.
Victoria recorded 76 new cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths in the past 24 hours as Premier Daniel Andrews is set to unveil his plans to reopen the state on Sunday.
