Hainan Eld's deer enter breeding season

Once on the edge of extinction, the Hainan Eld's deer is one of the rarest deer species in China.

After four decades of conservation and protection, they have registered an increase in population. Many have returned to the wild to live on their own in the Datian National Nature Reserve in south China's Hainan Province.

Every September, the Eld's deer enter their breeding season.
