India on Monday surpassed Brazil as the second worst-hit country by COVID-19, with the caseload reaching 4,204,613. The death toll in the country stands at 71,642.

The Chinese Embassy in India on Sunday announced that all passengers traveling from India to China will need to undergo coronavirus nucleic acid testing within three days before their departure and present a negative test result when boarding their flight, starting from September 14.

However, metro services in Delhi, the capital of India, resumed on Monday morning after being closed for over five months. The Home Ministry had recently issued guidelines allowing metro services in the country to resume operations in a graded manner, following which the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said it would be done in three stages from September 7 to 12.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday expressed happiness over restart of Metro train services, tweeting: "I am happy Metro(services) starts today. Metro has made good arrangements. We also do not have to show negligence in following the precautions."

Various steps like mask-wearing, social distancing, and traveling with smart cards only. Thermal screening have been put in place by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to ensure safe commuting amid coronavirus pandemic.

Some passengers were given masks by the DMRC as their masks don't meet the standard of protection.
