China said on Monday that the political system of its Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) is not "separation of powers."

In a statement released on Monday, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said that it supports HKSAR chief Carrie Lam's recent speech saying that HKSAR's political system is not "separation of powers."

The spokesperson said that the political system is the core content of the system of HKSAR, which reflects the relationship between the central government and the region, and stipulates the basic political structure within HKSAR.

The spokesperson pointed out that "separation of powers" is usually a term reserved for sovereign states.

HKSAR is not an independent political entity, but a local administrative region where all of its power comes from the central government, the spokesperson said.

The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council also released a statement on Monday rebutting the claim that HKSAR exercises "separation of powers."

In the statement, the spokesperson expressed support for the HKSAR education bureau's decision to delete certain content from school textbooks.
