The ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing is the first major economic and trade event in China since the coronavirus outbreak in January.

In this special time, how does such a large-scale event like this ensure the health of participants? Do audiences and exhibitors feel safe around the event area?

Liu Kun, director of healthcare at the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, said that epidemic prevention is a priority at the event.

"We have taken necessary measures for staff and exhibitors as well as monitored their health conditions beforehand," Liu told CGTN.

"We have provided them Traditional Chinese Medicine to improve their health and prevent diseases," he said, adding that the commission also conducted nucleic acid tests in advance to ensure participants join the event in good health.

Audiences are required to make advance reservations.

"During the reservation process, we can screen them through their health code and big data, making sure all visitors here meet our health codes," said Liu.

"We clean and disinfect the event area every day, and provide medical staff and disease control personnel to monitor and guide the epidemic prevention measures on site."

Because of the impact of the pandemic, most of the audiences and exhibitors are based in Beijing.

"I think today was pretty safe for everyone," Cecilia Chirita, a counselor at the Moldovan Embassy, told CGTN on Saturday, the first day the exhibition opened to the public. "You see the pavilions are not very big, and they have two doors, so the air is communicating pretty well."

Zhai Ruting, an audience member from Beijing Tianxingpuxin Bio-med Sinopharm Holding, told CGTN that she appreciated the protective measures taken by the event.

"For example, there are hand sanitizers at the entrances," she said.

"I feel very safe," said Steffs Henrik Simon, a teaching director at Snow51, when asked if he is afraid of getting infected at the event.

"I can see the measurements they took, some prevention methods. I think the outside exhibition, I didn't expect so many people to be here, but everyone sticks to the rules," he said.
