South Korea has reported cases that are infected with both COVID-19 and seasonal influenza, according to the South Korea media KBS World citing the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) on Wednesday.

The country found cases that have tested positive for both COVID-19 and the flu, said KCDC chief Jeong Eun-kyeong at a media briefing, adding that further details will be released after analysis and confirmation.

She noted that there were similar cases overseas. The probability of getting co-infected with influenza and COVID-19 is low, and whether a double infection will lead to worse symptoms or a more fatal outcomes requires more analysis.

The chief said that the government will extend this year's flu vaccination to 19 million people, and suggested that people with chronic diseases should also be actively vaccinated.
