Chinese foreign ministry's official on Tuesday urged Germany to respect basic facts and abide by the basic norms of international relations especially the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs.

Yang Tao, director-general of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Foreign Ministry, made the remarks at the 16th China-Germany Human Rights Dialogue with Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid Bärbel Kofler of Germany.

In the past eight months, 1.4 billion Chinese people have made tremendous efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and forged the spirit of life supremacy, unity, respecting science and shared destiny, which embodies the pursuit of people-centered values, said Yang, adding that this is the greatest human right.

Speaking of Xinjiang, Yang said its economy continues to develop, the society is harmonious and stable, people's livelihood continues to improve, people of all ethnic groups live and work in peace, and their rights are fully guaranteed in accordance with the law.

As for Hong Kong, the official said the national security law for Hong Kong not only safeguards the basic rights and freedom of Hong Kong residents, but is also conducive to the stability and long-term development of "One Country, Two Systems."

China has expressed concerns about the far-right thoughts in Germany, violations of the rights of detainees, ineffective supervision of police law enforcement, and human rights violations in counter-terrorism, and hopes that Germany will pay attention to and resolve these issues.

Both sides agreed that under the current international situation, it is necessary to uphold multilateralism and continue to advance the work of the United Nations in security, development, and human rights.
