The Los Angeles Rams and their Pro-Bowel cornerback Jalen Ramsey has agreed to a five-year, 105-million-U.S.-dollar contract extension, according to ESPN.

It is the biggest deal in NFL history for a cornerback. Ramsey became the first player in his position to earn a contract exceeding 100 million U.S. dollars. Both the total number and the guaranteed money, 72.1 million U.S. dollars, are the biggest for a defensive back.

"I'm happy for Jalen and I'm happy for our football team. I think for him to be able to get that taken care of, you don't have any sort of distractions in the background, so that's definitely a positive for us," said Sean McVay, head coach of the Rams.

Ramsey joined the league in 2016 after the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him with the fifth pick in the draft. By the way, the Rams selected Jared Goff with the first pick in that year. Last October, he was traded to LA in exchange for two first-round picks (2020, 2021) and one fourth-rounder.

Ramsey continued his stable performance in the Rams and contributed one interception, pass deflections and a forced fumble in nine games. Having played 60 games so far, he has intercepted 10 passes, returned one for touchdown, deflected 49 passes and forced three fumbles. The great performance of his put Ramsey in Pro Bowl for three times and in First-team All-Pro in 2017.

"I think we fit really well together and that we've gotten to learn a lot more about each other over the last six months, certainly the last month, and change since we've been in person. We're hoping the best is to come," said Brandon Staley, first-year defensive coordinator of the Rams.

It should be pointed out that Ramsey's extension was the fourth maximum deal given by the Rams since 2018 after the contracts of defensive tackle Aaron Donald, quarterback Goff and running back Todd Gurley.
