The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar on Tuesday held a telephone conference with Myanmar's officials to coordinate strengthening the joint prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic in the two countries.

The meeting arrived amid a resurgence of novel coronavirus infections in Myanmar and Chinese reports of confirmed cases that were imported from the neighboring country.

The embassy stressed the importance of testing travelers for the novel coronavirus and said it hopes the two sides can strengthen border control and information sharing to prevent the further spread of the virus.

China and Myanmar should also jointly fight illegal entries at the border, the embassy said.

China will continue to offer help within its capacity in Myanmar's battle against the epidemic, the embassy added.

Chinese border city Ruili of southwest Yunnan Province reported two COVID-19 cases on Sunday involving two Myanmar nationals who entered China illegally through the city.
