India's COVID-19 death toll passes 80,000 

India recorded 1,054 new deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking its official death toll to 80,776, according to the union health ministry. 

The country reported its lowest one-day jump in total caseload on Tuesday, with 83,809 new coronavirus infections.

India has now registered 4.93 million confirmed cases, the second largest number of total infections in the world, lagging only the U.S.
