Head coach Nick Nurse has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Toronto Raptors, announced the team on Tuesday but Toronto did not disclose any specific term.

"Our confidence in Nick just continues to grow, and part of that comes from what we've experienced together," said Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri in a statement. "The past two seasons have been unlike any other in our team's history – first, winning our championship, and then navigating a global pandemic and committing long-term to the fight against racism and for social justice. Nick has proved that he can coach on the court and lead in life, and we're looking forward to accomplishing great things in the future."

Though Toronto were knocked out by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals after seven games, that did not change the team's confidence in Nurse. In fact, after the team lost last Year's Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and top 3D player Danny Green, Nurse still managed to lead Toronto to finish the regular season with a remarkable 53-19 record. Such brilliant performance of the team also made him Coach of the Year this season.

"My family and I will always be appreciative of Larry Tanenbaum and MLSE ownership for this opportunity. I'm grateful to Masai, (GM) Bobby (Webster), and the players for their trust and their hard work. Toronto has been my home for the past seven years, and I look forward to it being home for many more. I've watched this franchise grow and reach the pinnacle, and I look forward to the challenge of helping us win another championship," said Nurse in the statement.

Toronto Raptors kept quite a decent lineup which is only one super star away from becoming an champion team again. Moreover, they should be able to collect over 45-million-U.S.-dollar cap space in 2021 summer, which is enough for them to offer a maximum deal. Giannis Antetokounmpo will be an unrestricted free agent then. Though he kept saying that he won't leave the Milwaukee Bucks, he has not signed any new contract with Milwaukee either.
