Latest developments in the global COVID-19 pandemic

India's coronavirus case tally surged to 5.4 million as it reported 92,605 new infections in the past 24 hours. The country has posted the highest one-day spike in caseload in the world since early August. A total of 1,113 more people died in a day, taking its death toll to 86,752.

France reported 13,498 new cases in a 24-hour span on Saturday, a new daily record in the country. It now has recorded 442,194 total confirmed coronavirus infections.

UK's number of COVID-19 cases rose by 4,422 on Saturday, the highest daily spike since May 8. The country's caseload hit 390,358 while the death toll increased by 27 to 41,759. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has previously warned that a second wave of infections is "coming in."

Israel recorded 30 new deaths due to COVID-19 on Saturday, the highest daily death toll since the pandemic began in late February. The number of total confirmed cases rose by 4,531 to 183,602.

South Korea reported 82 more cases in a 24-hour period on Saturday, bringing its caseload to 22,975. It has reported less than 100 cases in the last 38 days. Five more deaths were registered, taking its toll to 383.
