Kumtag Desert is located on the border of western Gansu Province and southeastern Xinjiang. It is connected by the Archke Valley - Dunhuang Yadan National Geopark in the north, the Altun Mountain in the south, Lop Nur in the west, and Dunhuang Mingsha Mountain and Annamba National Protected Area in the east.
