Plastic waste upcycled into jewelry

Updated 2020.09.22 19:48 GMT+8

These jewelry pieces are made of waste plastic – not something you'd guess just by looking at them. The project "Recycle.Object" was launched in June by Muscovite Polina Cherpovitskaya, when her main business – souvenirs and jewelry for museums – was put on hold, due to COVID-19.

The waste plastic is non-toxic ABS plastic that comes from a 3D printing studio. Waste plastic from 3D printers is not the only plastic that can be used – plastic bottles and caps work too. The pieces cost between 900 and 2,600 Russian Rubles (12-35 U.S. dollars). Five percent of the profit goes to a charity promoting the separate collection of waste.

If buyers no longer need the items, they can return them to the "Recycle.Object" for further recycling. Since the start of the project, about 2,000 items have been sold, both online and in several retail shops in Moscow.
