India's total number of confirmed cases rose to 5,732,518 with 86,508 new cases and 1,129 more deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 91,149. India's junior railways minister died due to the virus, nearly two weeks after he tested positive.
Chile reported 1,372 cases of novel coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, bringing the national number of cases to 449,903. Meanwhile, 24 more patients died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 12,345.
Brazil recorded 869 more deaths on Wednesday, raising its national total to 138,977 cases since the start of the pandemic. Tests also detected 33,281 new infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,624,885. The number of people in the ranks of the unemployed in Brazil grew to 12.9 million in August, an increase of 27.6 percent compared to May, when 10.1 million Brazilians were jobless.
Israel confirmed 11,316 new cases on Wednesday, bringing total confirmed cases to 204,690. The total number of deaths reached 1,325, with 40 new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 668 to 657, out of 1,370 patients currently hospitalized.
Iran reported 3,605 new patients overnight, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 432,798 on Wednesday. The pandemic has so far claimed 24,840 lives in Iran, up by 184 in the past 24 hours.
Lebanon's total number of confirmed cases increased on Wednesday by 940 cases to 31,778 while the death toll went up by 13 to 328. Director General of Rafic Hariri University Hospital advised to shut the country down for two weeks thus to control the spread of the virus.
