UK, France record highest number of new coronavirus cases

Britain recorded its highest number of daily cases of COVID-19 on Thursday at 6,634, according to government data.

Public Health England said there had also been 40 new deaths, up from 37 the day before. The country has the highest death toll from COVID-19 in Europe, at 41,902.

France's daily COVID-19 infections also hit a record high, with 16,096 new coronavirus cases reported in a 24-hour span. The total deaths reached 31,511, up by 52 in the past 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the United States nears 6.97 million, with death toll surpassing 202,000.

Brazil's COVID-19 death toll nears 140,000

Brazil reported 831 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 139,808.

According to the Ministry of Health, tests have detected 32,817 new cases of COVID-19 infection since Wednesday, bringing the total caseload to 4,657,702.

Sao Paulo, the most populated state of the country, is the epicenter of the national outbreak, with 958,240 cases of infection and 34,677 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 257,985 cases and 18,037 deaths.
