The 13th Beijing Fringe Festival opened in the Chinese capital on Friday with over 30 domestic and foreign plays scheduled to be staged, promising a feast for theater fans.

Chinese director Li Jianjun's "One Fine Day 2020" was staged on Friday night at the National Theatre of China (NTC), lifting the curtain on the festival. Twenty amateur actors took to the stage to share their Beijing adventures over the past 20 years.

The play premiered at the 2013 edition of the festival. Since then different iterations have been produced in other Chinese cities, from Shanghai, Shenzhen to Hangzhou and Hong Kong.

The coronavirus pandemic has led this year's festival to adopt a mixed format of online and offline activities. Audiences are able to enjoy live performances in theaters or via Youku, a Chinese video streaming platform, for free.

Apart from theater performances, a string of other events, including live music shows, table reads and discussions, will also be held.

Co-hosted by the NTC and Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the festival runs until November 15.
